What We Consider
Available Repair Evidence
Where credible information exists, repair patterns and component problems can provide useful context. Coverage varies significantly by manufacturer and model.
Expected Lifespan
Lifespan information helps place a product's current age in context. When model-specific evidence is unavailable, broader benchmarks may be used and identified accordingly.
Repairability
Repairability considers factors such as parts availability, diagnostic access, and the tools or procedures required to perform common repairs.
Repair Cost Exposure
Some failures are relatively inexpensive to correct while others may have a large financial impact. Reliability insights should consider both frequency and repair severity when credible data exists.
Parts Availability
A repair can become impractical when necessary components are discontinued, restricted, backordered, or uneconomical to source.
Why We Do Not Rank Every Model
A trustworthy ranking requires enough comparable data across a meaningful number of products.
CostToKeep's model-level database is still growing. Some products may have stronger documentation and source coverage than others.
Rather than assigning unsupported "best" or "worst" labels, CostToKeep displays available evidence, data confidence, and limitations.
As coverage improves, comparative analyses may be published when the data can support them.

Model-specific evidence is limited and the estimate relies more heavily on broader assumptions or user-provided data.
A confidence label describes the strength of the available evidence. It is not a guarantee that an appliance will or will not experience a failure.

No database can predict exactly when an individual appliance will fail.
Manufacturing changes, model revisions, usage patterns, environment, maintenance, installation, repair history, and random component variation can all influence service life.
